What is CONFOR?
CONFOR is uniquely organized by graduate students for graduate students in a broad spectrum of programs (Environmental Sciences, Forestry, Business Economics, Policy, Aboriginal Studies, etc.) who have a particular interest in our natural environment and how it impacts the world we live in.

Why should I go?
CONFOR is a chance for graduate students to come together in a relaxed, fun atmosphere and gain valuable experience presenting their work (poster, oral), with the chance to receive valuable peer feedback.

Situated in Thunder Bay, ON, at the head of Lake Superior, the natural laboratories of Northwestern Ontario are what draw many students studying forest environments to Lakehead University.

The complexity of today’s forestry industry is represented by the ongoing multidisciplinary research in the Faculty of Forestry and the Forest Environment. Graduate students are currently involved with research in the following fields:
  • Ecology and Ecosystems
  • Forest Protection
  • Forest Operations and Management
  • Watersheds and Soils Management
  • Genetics, Tree Improvement, and Forest Renewal and Growth
  • Forest Products and Business
  • Aboriginal and Social Issues in Forestry
  • Wildlife and Habitat
  • Forest Pathology and Urban Forestry
  • GIS and Remote Sensing
